Overview:

With its conservative design and boring looks, this Dell laptop doesn’t seem like much of a contender at first. However, peek underneath the body and you will immediately realize why it is on our list. Powered by an Intel Core i5 8th generation processor, this 15.6” laptop is immensely capable of handling any task you throw at it.

      What we liked about this:

  • Fast processor- The Core i5 8250 is capable of handling anything you throw at it, from office presentations to games and HD movies. Moreover, it is incredibly power efficient which is why this Dell laptop can extract 6 hours of runtime from an otherwise average battery.
  • Dedicated graphics- With an AMD Radeon 520 2GB graphics unit, you do not have to worry about the laptop slowing down when you load up a high-resolution video or image, and it can manage a bit of casual gaming.
  • Fingerprint sensor- Found primarily on business laptops such as the Lenovo Ideapad and Dell XPS machines. Thankfully, the Vostro comes with one since it too is oriented towards professionals.
  • Build quality- Even though the whole body looks as if it is made from cheap plastic, the reality is that Dell believes in functionality over looks when it comes to their Vostro laptops. It features high quality plastic on the lid and body, there is very little flex and the design allows the laptop to survive a couple of nasty drops.

       What we don't like:

  • Display- Despite being a FHD screen, the colors appear a little washed out and the viewing angles are not very good.
  • Keyboard- It feels mushy, with very little feedback when you press on the keys.

Overview:

Definitely the best-looking laptop on our list, but how does it perform? Well, since this Aspire 5 sports an Intel 8th gen Core i5 CPU and a NVIDA GeForce MX150 2GB graphics card, we would say it is the most powerful laptop on this list. And there’s more to it- the A515-51G boasts a 7 hour runtime on full charge, and comes loaded with 8GB of high speed DDR4 RAM.

      What we liked about this:

  • Efficient- If you combine an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor with a 4-cel Lithium ion battery, you get a laptop that runs for up to 7 hours with moderate usage. This makes the Aspire 5 A515-51G a brilliant choice for students and travelers.
  • NVIDIA graphics- Simply put, the most powerful GPU you can get in a laptop under 50,000 rupees. It is based on NVIDIA Pascal architecture, and is a mobile version of the GT 1030 desktop graphics card.
  • Latest in wireless connectivity- With 802.11 ac WIFI and Bluetooth v4.0, you can stay connected with the world at lightning fast speeds, no matter where you are.
  • Brilliant design- It is sleek, the heat vents are positioned in such a way that they stay out of sight, yet dissipate the hot air in an efficient manner, the hinges are coated with a silvery color, and the edges make this laptop look bold and very professional.

       What we don't like:

  • 768p Display- It is 2018, and we still have laptops that use 1366 x 768 displays. However, as long as you are not buying this laptop to edit photos or watch movies, everything should be fine.
  • No Optical Disk Drive- The wide range of I/O options such as ac WIFI, Bluetooth and USB Type C should cover up for the fact that this machine lacks a CD/ DVD drive.

Overview:

Ryzen processors have earned a reputation for providing amazing performance at incredible price points; they combine efficiency with lots of cores to give you a seamless multitasking experience. A Ryzen 5 2500U processor powers this Acer laptop, giving you a high performance machine that is fully capable of handling everything from spreadsheets to CAD software. Gamers, photographers, movie enthusiasts, 3D artists, and college students are all going to love this laptop for its combination of speed and efficiency.

      What we liked about this:

  • Feature packed- Fingerprint scanner, FHD IPS screen, ultra-slim design, quad-core 8 thread processor that can boost up to 3.6 GHz, ac WIFI, Bluetooth v4.1, etc.
  • Best integrated graphics ever- Vega 8 is here, and it beats the snot out of anything that Intel has to offer in terms of onboard graphics.
  • Brilliant display- The 15.6” 1080p display sports an IPS panel with an anti-glare coating on the top. Colors are extremely lively, and the contrast is amazing, not to mention the superb viewing angles are an inherent property of all IPS displays.
  • Very portable- It weighs just 2.1 kilos and is 18.9mm thick, making this the slimmest laptop on our list.

       What we don't like:

  • No ODD- Lacks a CD/ DVD drive
  • No Ethernet or VGA port- You will need an adapter to connect with devices that use Ethernet or VGA ports.

Overview:

The 1080p anti-glare display on this HP laptop is probably the best we have seen in a while, at least under the 50k price range. However, what really makes this laptop different from the rest is its massive storage capacity- the slim body of this 15.6” notebook houses a 2TB HDD. It still manages to weigh just under 2.1 kilos despite having twice the storage capacity of any other laptop on our list.

      What we liked about this:

  • Latest Intel processor- The Core i5 8250U is what you get on this HP laptop, it is much faster than any 7th generation Core i5 and delivers blistering performance while simultaneously conserving battery power whenever you are not using it at its fullest.
  • Lots of storage- 2TB is twice what you get on the other laptops, it allows you to keep all your videos, documents, games, etc. in one place without the need for an external storage device.
  • FHD display- Nothing spectacular, most laptops in this price range come with one of these. However, this display handles colors slightly better compared to the ones on the Dell and Acer notebooks.
  • Has an ODD- Unlike the rest of the laptops on our list, this one actually features a CD/ DVD drive for all the old-school users out there.

        What we don't like:

  • No ac WIFI- We expect the latest wireless LAN technology in a laptop that sports the latest processor. While b/g/n WIFI is still used by the majority of existing laptops in India, it is nice to know that you are purchasing a machine with the technology of the future already installed in it.
  • Heating- This laptop tends to heat up on the upper left region with a couple hours of usage. Nothing abnormal, just a minor inconvenience.

5. Dell Inspiron 15 5575 15.6” Laptop

Overview:

Are you a fan of Ryzen CPUs? If not, this laptop will serve as a proper introduction to the capabilities of the latest processor from AMD. It packs a quad-core 8 thread CPU, with a Vega 8 next-generation graphics core merged into the processor package. The result is surprisingly smooth multitasking combined with extreme levels of efficiency. The Inspiron 5575 is one of the most versatile laptops in the Indian market, and is capable of handling games or HD videos with ease thanks to the Vega GPU.

      What we liked about this:

  • Great multitasker- It is powered by a quad-core, 8 thread AMD Ryzen processor that can boost up to 3.6 GHz.
  • Brilliant graphics performance- The Vega 8 is no dedicated GPU, but it comes very close to last generation low-end mobile GPUs in terms of performance, and certainly trounces the Intel HD 620 onboard graphics.
  • Nice audio- Tuned by MaxxAudio Pro, the stereo speakers on this laptop deliver extra clarity, you even get a slight touch of bass that is miles beyond what competing laptops can achieve.
  • Slim and lightweight- It is 22.7mm thick, and weighs just 2.22 kilos.

       What we don't like:

  • No ODD- It is a slim form factor laptop, and you have to make a compromise between portability and old school tech. In this case, Dell chose to discard the disk drive in favor of reduced weight and a slimmer body.
  • Trackpad- Not very precise, collects fingerprints and dust quite easily

And The Winner Is

With its sleek design, powerful CPU, and Pascal-based NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G takes home the trophy for best laptop under 50,000 rupees in India. It is fast, efficient, well built, while also boasting some neat features such as Acer TrueHarmony and 802.11 ac WIFI.  The only real downside to this otherwise perfect laptop is its display- the 1366 x 768 resolution TFT screen just isn’t very good for watching movies or editing photos/ videos. If you prefer a full HD display, we suggest that you purchase the Acer Swift 3 SF315-41 instead. It is equipped with a slower graphics unit, but the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor is just as capable, if not better than the Intel Core i5 8250U found on the A515-51G.
